Frequently asked questions

What is aromatherapy?

Aromatherapy is the use of essential oils to bring about balance, and to maintain / improve the health of the mind, body and spirit.

What are essential oils?

Essential oils are aromatic plant extracts comprised of the volatile molecules from the plants from which they are derived.

How can essential oils be used?

There are many ways to enjoy essential oils including: massage - in a carrier oil/cream or lotion, in a diffuser, steam/tissue inhalation, in the bath, on a compress – even as household disinfectants!

What are the benefits of aromatherapy?

The benefits of aromatherapy are vast. Essential oils and holistic treatments can be highly effective for stress, anxiety, depression, hormonal imbalance and many associated symptoms such as insomnia, IBS, headaches and migraines, to name a few. A holistic approach ensures that appropriate treatment and essential oils are selected for the individual. Furthermore, the individual oils selected have therapeutic benefits that when combined in a synergy, are greatly increased as the oils enhance the efficacy of each other.

Is aromatherapy safe?

Although certified organic essential oils are naturally sourced, they can be very potent. When used safely, they have many benefits. However, you should never ever ingest essential oils, and they should never be applied neat to the skin – always mix with a carrier such as sunflower oil or white lotion. Some oils are known to cause skin irritation, some are to be avoided with children or in pregnancy, and some are not recommended for use with various medical conditions or allergies, so it is always best to seek the advice of a certified aromatherapist.

What is the purpose of the pre-treatment consultation?

A full consultation is carried out to ensure that the most appropriate treatment is given, contraindications are flagged and observed, the appropriate essential oils/carriers/dosage and blend are selected - specific to your needs at that particular time - and in order that the most appropriate home treatment and advice can be given to assist and enhance your treatment. All personal information disclosed will be treated with the strictest confidence.

How should I prepare for treatment?

Please avoid the consumption of heavy meals and alcohol before your treatment, and ideally - particularly for facials - shower or bath beforehand, removing all make-up.

Please note: The aromatherapy treatments and advice I offer are not a replacement for conventional medicine. I am not a qualified GP and am not here to diagnose or cure. Some medical conditions will require the consent of your GP or consultant prior to treatment, so please do disclose at time of booking.
